In that case shouldn’t the Americans be slaughtered and have their land taken by American Indians?

Seriously, if we spend a lot of time trying to get revenge for stuff that happened centuries ago, we wouldn’t have time for anything else!

No more than the Taliban should have destroyed the Golden Buddha statues!! Art is such a precious commodity to the world. It gives us a glimpse of the magnificence of man’s creative prowess from another generation. Imagine how we now discuss the Hanging Gardens of Babylon,or the Lighthouse at Alexandria; the Mausoleum at Hallicarnassus or the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus. We can see through the Pyramids at the plains of Giza how spiritually uplifting it is to observe what mankind has accomplished in the past. Imagine if we did not know of the Colossus of Rhodes or the Statue of Zeus at Olympia. These were only the seven wonders of the ancient world.

If a natural disaster does not take it away (and we do have many with our shifting land masses and tsunamis, not to mention terrorist attacks), PRESERVE IT FOR POSTERITY!
