(If necessary I would consider more) I would like to be in the center of everything, so that we can walk almost everywhere except some places where I will take the metro. I speak French and lived in the south but do not know Paris. My son is into music, dance clubs, museums and shopping. I also heard that a cool place to be near is Centre Pompidou/Les Halles. We are going for a week in August. Please help! thanks!

I think for less than 100 euros you will have difficulties to find a good hotel, especially in August. You will find only a 2* hotel, which can be rather good if you are lucky.
I can advice you to book in Ibis Hotel :
This is a good chain with good prices and clean hotels with all comfort, around 100 euros the night.
They have one near Montparnasse for example which can be good….many restaurants in the area and not very far from latin quarter.
I’m not sure that Hotel near Centre Pompidou and Forum des Halles will be good, because it’s a noisy place and secondly you can meet some bad people in the night…
Anyway, in Paris, you will be obliged to take metro or buses, otherwises you have to walk a lot…..but it’s very easy and very expensive to take metro and buses :
A good hotel in the city center for 100 euros or less isn’t that hard to find but one that also has air conditioning is a lot more difficult. I can’t think of one.
You have to either move up in price or out to the periphery of the city.
The Ibis hotels mentioned by Tiramisu are fine but they are, in my opinion, too far from the center. The Ibis in Montparnasse, for example, is 4 kilometers from the Latin Quarter. Quite a hike.
In the center the price increase to have air conditioning is substantial. A nice hotel with AC that is very well located is the Hotel Let Bank St. Germain (http://www.paris-paris.com/hotels/saint-germain/left-bank_st-germain/index.php) but the “rack rate” there is 180 euros. However they often have special offers and i suggest you check their website.
You might also consider that Paris is not usually very hot even in August. The normal August high temperature is 76 degrees fahrenheit with overnight lows in the 60’s. I’m a Texan and that doesn’t seem very hot at all. Your own conmfort level may, however, be different than mine.
I think you should spend your time in 4 different hotels. I recommend The Hilton Arc De Triomphe which is about a 4 minute walk to the Arc. (1-2 nights)
Then you should stay in the Hilton Eiffel Tower which you can SEE the Eiffel Tower from most rooms and it is about a 30 second walk to the Eiffel Tower. (2-3 nights)
And DEFINATELY see the Pompidou centre!! Its a GREAT part of town! I had so much fun there and make sure to visit the modern art museum!!! im sure you can find a Best Westernn or some cheapo hotel there for 2 or 3 nightsHAVE FUN
The metro is cheap and easy so why stress yourselves looking for a close-in hotel? Besides, you can hear the wonderful live music in the metro for whatever you’re willing to tip.
Besides the Louvre, take him to Gare de Nord (the Impressionist museum) and the Monet museum where you can (Well, you could when I went) sit on the floor and view the giant paintings from different angles. There are some old Roman sites in Paris, too, that your son might like.
My experience from European teens is that almost anything he wants in Europe is available, for less, in the US. And, you won’t have to find a place for it in the suitcase or deal with the VAT refund.

You might be able to find a decent hotel centrally located for 100 Euros, but you might consider renting a small furnished apartment.
I rented one for a week in the 6th Arr. for 500 Euros (Between Odeon Metro station and the Louvre). While the price was great, the experience of actually “living like a Parisian” was even better. I’m sure your son would have an unforgettable experience, but may not want to come home.
